Fair Usage Policy

Effective From: 16 November 2025

Here's our policy that applies to the £12/month discounted unlimited data plan called All-You-Can-Eat, how it works, and how we ensure HotdogSIM enjoyment for everyone in the UK and while roaming.

1. Purpose of This Policy

Our Fair Usage Policy ensures that every HotdogSIM customer enjoys fast, reliable mobile data without any one user impacting the service for others. This document explains how unlimited data is managed in the UK and how roaming allowances work in the EU/EEA.

2. Unlimited Data – What You Get in the UK

Your Unlimited plan gives you mobile data throughout the month with no overage fees and no hidden charges.

To maintain network stability for all users, the Unlimited plan includes a speed altering structure, outlined below.

3. Dynamic Speed Control

Data Source & Notes:

Data reflects ISPreview-published network speeds (RootMetrics H2 2024), combined with Sept 2024 OpenSignal upload figures.

Strategy Insight: The green box highlights the 40 Mbps buffer HotdogSIM has over competitors. This represents the "speed advantage" available before parity is reached.

a) Your data stays active

Because we operate on the fastest network in the UK, we have the flexibility to manage speeds while still keeping you significantly faster than any competitor outside our infrastructure.

We will not disconnect you or stop your data. Your service continues to work.

b) Heavy usage speeds may be reduced

Your plan includes unlimited data, with daily access to our highest available speeds.

To make sure the network stays fast and enjoyable for everyone, your speed may gradually reduce throughout the day during periods of very heavy usage. Your speeds reset back to the highest available level every day.

However, if your overall usage in a single billing month is significantly higher than typical for an unlimited plan, we may temporarily reduce your speed for the rest of that billing cycle. Everything resets again at the start of your next month.

Even when speed is reduced, you can still comfortably use:

  • Browsing
  • Messaging apps
  • Social media
  • Music streaming
  • Standard-quality video

Activities that may be limited:

  • HD/4K video
  • Large downloads
  • Heavy cloud backups
  • High-bandwidth apps

Your max speeds return automatically when your next billing month begins.

4. EU Roaming Fair Usage (Roam Like at Home)

When roaming within the EU/EEA, your plan includes:

12GB of data per month for EU roaming.

This allowance is separate from your UK usage.

Once you reach 12GB of roaming data in a billing cycle:

  • Your data will continue to work.
  • However, speeds may be reduced, or a regulated surcharge may apply based on EU wholesale rates.

Your UK Unlimited allowance does not apply outside the UK. This rule helps prevent network strain and ensures fair usage across all EU roaming partnerships.

5. What Counts as Excessive or Improper Usage

To keep the network fair, the following are not allowed under the Unlimited plan:

  • HotdogSIM plans are for personal use only, not business/commercial use.
  • No SIM boxes, gateways, routers, or equipment designed to generate automated traffic.
  • You must not use the service in any way that is unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, harassing, or abusive.
  • You must not generate artificially inflated traffic or use HotdogSIM to create automated or non-genuine call, message, or data patterns.
  • Using your SIM as a substitute for home broadband.
  • Hotspot use that resembles household Wi-Fi consumption.
  • Running servers, mining tools, or automated systems.
  • Continuous/abnormal high-bandwidth activity.
  • Reselling, redistributing, or sharing the connection.
  • Attempting to bypass speed controls or FUP measures.

If misuse is detected, we may:

  • Contact you to review usage.
  • Restrict certain services.
  • Apply speed limits.
  • Suspend or end the service (in serious cases).

6. How We Measure Usage

We monitor the amount of data being used in real time to ensure accurate billing and fair access. We do not monitor or inspect the content of your communications.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update the Fair Usage Policy when necessary. If the changes are significant or affect your service, we will give you at least 30 days’ notice.
